I never imagined a funeral could feel like a hymn of redemption, but in the hushed grandeur of St Mary’s RC Church, Sir Cliff Richard—lyric sheet forgotten—chuckled, spoke of Cilla’s ‘commitment and dedication,’ then unleashed ‘Faithful One’ with every ounce of his seven-decade soul, turning a farewell into a sanctuary of hope that left us blinking back tears, hearts swelling with the quiet power of a true friend’s song.

During his final tour stop in Milwaukee last night, Alan Jackson officially announced his retirement from touring. While he shared that one last farewell show will take place in Nashville in 2026, Alan confirmed that his days on the road are coming to an end: “Y’all may have heard that I’m kinda winding down. In fact, this is my last roadshow. We’re planning a big finale in Nashville next summer—I just felt like I had to end it where it all began. That’s home for me: Nashville, Tennessee. But this is the last one out on the road. It’s been a long, sweet ride. It started 40 years ago this September. My wife and I drove to Nashville in an old U-Haul trailer, chasing a dream. And I’ve lived the American dream for sure—it’s been a crazy, beautiful journey.”

“You’d think a country song about church would feel comforting—until Alan Jackson’s gravel-edged voice cracks in that empty sanctuary, guitar in hand, as he sings ‘Monday Morning Church’ like a raw, mournful prayer for anyone who’s ever stood alone at a funeral; stained-glass light dances on deserted pews, the steel guitar weeps in sympathy, and every verse feels like hope whispering through our grief.”
